Ancient Beginnings
Honey has been cherished in Africa for millennia, with evidence of its use dating back to ancient times. The earliest recorded depiction of honey collection in Africa is a 7,000-year-old rock painting found in the caves of Tassili n'Ajjer in modern-day Algeria. This art shows humans collecting honey from wild bees, a practice believed to be widespread across ancient African civilizations. The rich flora and warm climate of many regions provided ideal conditions for beekeeping, particularly in East Africa, where honey played an integral role in everyday life.
